So…. The new Lady GaGa single came out last week and I’ve kind of been avoiding having to talk about it. But then again there’s a lot of music I should be talking about, but I just don’t…
But anyway, am I really gay & a true ~musique blogger~ if I don’t review it?
So here we are a week later and a day later after the music video premiered. Let me just say I actually like the song now. Do I love it? No. Can it hold a candle to really any other released song in her discography? Hell no. But it’s a bop! And honestly I think that if she had worked on it just a bit more, it would have been something truly amazing.
The problem is that it never properly erupts like her songs have in the past. I know, I know… I shouldn’t be questioning her artistique evolution as a musician but I really feel like she could’ve taken this to a whole new level. Remember when you heard “Venus” for the first time and it was a long series of hooks before it finally exploded into the chorus? That’s what I was expecting here and it just did not happen. The hook is catchy & angry AF don’t get me wrong but it sort of feels like a pre-chorus that never directly leads anywhere. In fact the song as a whole never really ~leads~ anywhere at all. I remember being on my toes a week ago in bed listening to this just waiting for that #moment and it just never happened. Sure the key change is good, but the song is short, chaotic, and a bit of a racket.
That being said… I like it now and it kind of makes me want to flip a table and crash my car into my exes house. I’m intrigued that GaGa has remained somewhat mysterious about Joanne but nevertheless I’m excited to see what she’s going to do this time around.
Oh and the video? The less said the better.
